The goal of root canal re-treatment is to save a tooth that has had root canal therapy in the past and fails to heal. If a previously treated tooth becomes re-infected with bacteria or the tooth has complicated canal anatomy that went undetected during the first procedure, re-treatment can often save the tooth. In most cases, re-treatment is completed in two appointments, each approximately 60-to-70 minutes long.
