The goal of root canal surgery is to save a tooth that has had root canal therapy in the past. If a previously treated tooth becomes re-infected with bacteria or the tooth fails to heal after root canal therapy, root canal surgery can often save the tooth. In most cases, root canal surgery is completed in one appointment approximately 50 minutes long. The diagrams below illustrate root canal surgery technique.
Below is an example of root canal surgery on tooth #30, completed by Dr. Harmon. The tooth had been treated twice, but failed to heal. Performing root canal surgery and placing a special root-end filling allowed the infection to heal and saved the tooth.
Below is an example of root canal surgery on tooth #19, completed by Dr. Harmon. The tooth had root canal treatment in the past, but failed to heal. Performing root canal surgery and placing a special root-end filling allowed the infection to heal and saved the tooth.
